About the Trulli Ensemble

The Trulli Ensemble is:  Jan Freihammer (recorders), Tom Roberts (violin), and Kevin Scott (keyboards and recorder).

The Trulli Ensemble started as a happy accident – Kevin had been an accompanist for Jan as was working his way up to being, as Tom puts it, “a great big beast of a recorder player”.  When Jan was just “beastly” enough, Kevin and Jan took their duo act on the road, performing in locations such as the Prairie Ink Café at McNally Robinson, and coffee shops and as unlikely places as Sage Garden Herbs during their festivals. Kevin had also been playing informally with Tom mostly for church incidental music. Kevin discovered the Telemann trio sonata in D minor one day, written for harpsichord, violin and recorder and he and Jan invited Tom down to give it a play through, and the sparks were bouncing sufficiently enough that Trulli Ensemble was born on the spot.  A world of music opened up at that point, the wonder that is the trio sonata gave us all hours of discovery and fun in playing, and almost as an afterthought we also began to play for events too numerous to mention.  With Jan moving away to Germany a couple of years ago, Trulli performances have become quite rare and so we hope you enjoy this fortuitous occasion and that the infectious nature of the music might leave you with a spring in your step.
